Which format to choose
PNG is lossless and keeps transparency: ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics. JPG is lossy and gives small files for photos. WebP and AVIF compress better than JPG and PNG and suit fast websites. HEIC is the iPhone photo format and opens poorly outside the Apple ecosystem.
Before you convert
Converting to JPG removes transparency (it becomes a white background) and converting between lossy formats never recovers lost detail. Always keep the original. Everything runs in your browser, so you can convert private images without uploading them anywhere.
